5 Things to Do Now You’re Engaged
Getting engaged is one of the happiest moments of your life. After all, the partner of your dreams has just asked you to spend the rest of your lives together…and you’ve said yes!
The days, weeks and months that follow this special day can be a whirlwind of excitement and emotion. It’s a big moment – one that symbolises taking the next step in your life.
As a professional wedding photographer in Sydney, I love seeing the utter bliss surrounding a newly engaged couple. But I’m often asked, “what’s next?”
Lots of people can get a bit daunted with what to do now that they’re engaged. But don’t worry! I’m here to help.
To get you started, here are my top 5 things to do now that you’re engaged.
#1 Get Your Engagement Ring Insured
Yes, I know getting things insured is a bit of a dull task, but trust me when I say it’s a total necessity.
Your ring is your brand new pride and joy – something that you will cherish for the rest of your days. A symbol of your everlasting love for your significant other. But, we all know that accidents happen.
Settings become loose, you accidentally knock your hand into a door frame, you take your ring off to wash your hands…
The only thing worse than damaging or losing your beloved ring is not having insurance to cover it. So, that’s why it’s my number 1.
#2 Stock Up on Bridal Magazines
Time to start dreaming up some awesome ideas for your wedding!
There’s endless information out there on the internet, but there’s something so therapeutic and fun about flipping through pages and pages of bridal magazines.
Next time you’re at the newsagency, think about picking up magazines like Modern Wedding, Bride or Cosmopolitan Bride – or all three! Any bridal magazine may have your perfect solution hidden within the pages.
Not only do they have fantastic ideas for dresses, floral arrangements, accessories and the like, they also have heaps of info about locations, honeymoon destinations and wedding day/lead up tips and tricks.
For an added bit of fun, organise an evening with your best girlfriends where you bookmark your favourite bits over a few glasses of bubbly.
#3 Have an Engagement Photoshoot
A perfect way to kick-off you and your partner’s family album is to get a professional engagement photo.
Getting a professional engagement photo taken is a lot of fun when you’re in the right hands, and it makes for a beautiful preservation of such an exciting time in your lives.
You could have your photoshoot where you had your first date, or perhaps in your favourite park – whatever you desire!
#4 Set a Rough Date For the Big Day
Don’t panic, it doesn’t have to be the exact date. But, it’s very helpful to have a rough knowledge of when you’re going to tie the knot.
Once you’ve got an idea of your ideal date, you can start asking around to see if the time is going to work out amongst your friends and family. More so, you can use this estimate to start checking out availability for venues, caterers and photographers.
#5 Throw an Amazing Engagement Party
Making the big announcement is a given, but having an engagement party with your friends and family is a beautifully memorable way to celebrate the occasion.
Getting engaged is one of the best moments in your life – what better way to spread the joy is there than throwing a party?
From low-key to extravagant, casual to black tie – it doesn’t matter so long as you get to celebrate with the people you love the most.
These 5 things to do now you’re engaged are just the beginning, but they will help you to ease into the wonderful journey that is planning your dream wedding.
